The Wedding of Nathan and Sandra Gambriel

Now that the weather is getting colder and it's pretty much Halloween, I figured it's the perfect time to finally post some photos from a summer wedding, one which took place back in early July.

This was exciting for me in a lot of ways. My little baby cousin Nathan is all grown up now, with a baby, and this was his wedding day. I remember carrying this dude around on my hip talking about cartoons, and now he's a husband and father. How fucking weird.

The whole affair was also taking place at my parent's house out in Malden, which is rad. Shooting familiar people in a familiar environment is nice, especially when you're already nervous, which I was....Because this was my first time ever shooting a wedding by myself.

Nathan and his new wife Sandra were going low-budget and simple for their wedding, which I can totally respect. Their initial plan was apparently to just have people take some photos on their cellphones, so obviously once I heard this I wasn't having it. I got on the phone (or rather, the Facebook Messenger) right away and told Nathan that I had him covered.

So I figured this would be perfect for my first solo attempt, as I knew I could do better than a cellphone-wielding relative even if things didn't turn out perfectly.

The whole event made for a long and sometimes stressful day, but in the end Nathan was happy, which meant that I was too.

Of course there are things I would have done differently, and I think I learned more about shooting a wedding in this one day than I have in all the time I've spent assisting on them, but that's just another reason I'm glad that I did it.

I also had a blast with the editing, as I was able to get into trying some different stuff that I've since implemented elsewhere. One of my favourites, though, was going all Pinterest and turning one of the images into a fake movie poster.

While taglines may not be my forte, I mostly dig how this came out. Was also a cool way to include the names of family members in their wedding memorabilia.

I also strung a few of the photos together into comic-type images, as I know how into those Nathan is, and these photos were just very well suited to the idea.
